5 Ingredients Missing From Your Food Bowl

Food bowls are an easy and efficient meal, namely because of how customizable they are. Yet, while there are a great number of food combinations out there, it’s easy to lose inspiration. And that’s why I’m sharing a few of my favorite ingredients that you should include in your food bowl.


1. Avocado

The rich and earthy flavor of avocado is likely one of the ingredients missing from your food bowl. Avocado is full of healthy fats, fiber and antioxidants, making it one of the most heart-healthy ingredients. They also reap tons of benefits for your skin and gut health. They’re really the perfect addition to your bowl.

Suggestion: As mentioned below, paprika makes a good spice to add to your food bowls, and works especially well with avocados.

2. Sweet Potato

Many people might not know this, but avocados actually go great with sweet potatoes. This combination is a hidden gem, not only for the delicious taste the two create when combined, but also because of their nutritional value. The combination of fiber and antioxidants that these two food items provide benefit your gut.

Suggestion: To get all of the nutritional benefits of a sweet potato, keep the skin on when adding them to your bowl.

3. Chia Seeds

While both sweet potatoes and avocados are hearty choices for your food bowl, you might also want to consider adding chia seeds. They are one of the healthiest foods on the planet and provide an incredible number of nutrients—high amounts of fiber, protein, and antioxidants—with a very low number of calories. Chia seeds are especially easy to incorporate into your diet, as they are extremely tiny and hardly have a taste. Throw them in a bowl and obtain the benefits you might need.

Suggestion: Throwing chia seeds into not just your food bowls, but also your smoothies and salads are perfect ways of getting those nutrients into your diet.

4. Quinoa

Speaking of protein, this “ mother of all grains,” is beneficial for vegetarians and vegans since it’s one of the few plant foods considered a complete protein. Also, using quinoa as a base for your next food bowl is both nutritious and easy to make.

Suggestion: Quinoa and avocado work extremely well together and create a scrumptious texture.

5. Paprika

Any of these ingredients will provide a delicious taste to your bowl, but if you’re in to spicy flavors, paprika will add a great kick. It keeps your meals interesting and unique, which is sometimes hard to achieve with other spices. It also garners anti-aging effects and improves eyesight.

Suggestion: Food bowls with chickpeas and paprika create a delicious meal, as the legumes fuel your body with protein.
